Our Fiction Collection
Our fiction collection provides great recreational reading and supports the
College curriculum too.
Where is it?
Fiction books are in a corner of the library outside Seminar Room 1. Books are
ordered according to the first three letters of the author’s surname.
There is a computer library catalogue in this area if you want to see if we have
a certain author or book.
Genres
Some fiction follows a particular style or genre. The major genres are: action
adventure, crime, detective, fantasy, horror, humour, mystery, realistic
fiction, romance (and chick lit), science fiction and western.
You can search our catalogue for a particular genre by typing the name of the
genre and the word fiction and choosing a subject search. (NB. Humour is spelt
the American way – humor)
Our dotty spines
We have a dot system to help you find two types of books:
Short stories are marked on the spine of the book with a green dot.
Books that are fairly short and written for teenagers are marked with a red dot.
Request service
If you can’t find a book (or author) please ask at the library desk, if we don’t

Graphic novels and picture books
There are other places in the library that you can find fiction to read.
We have graphic novels and picture books outside Seminar Room 2. The books have
been chosen because the stories are written for mature readers and they often
have unusual design elements that would be of interest to visual arts students.
The ESL collection and the Aboriginal Education Resource Centre (both in the EC
library) also have fiction books that can be borrowed by college students.
Need any more help? Just ask at the library desk!
