If you are doing some specialised research in any area of Aboriginal studies, or simply looking up something for your own private interest, we may be able to assist you. Firstly, we would suggest you look through the following list of databases and see if any of them could be useful to you.

There are several databases that are available freely online. Also the State Library online reference library is a valuable resource (you must be a member of the State Library and the purpose of use must be for private research or study only and not for business or commercial purposes).

Aboriginal Studies WWW Virtual Library   (Created: 15 Apr 1994 ; updated continually)
Available to anyone
Website providing a guide to internet resources on Aboriginal studies. Includes links to sites for Indigenous Australians, Aboriginal Culture and Australian Aboriginal Art.

Australian Heritage photo library
Available to anyone
DEH database described as a photographic library. The library contains photographs of places on the following heritage lists: World Heritage List; National Heritage List; Commonwealth Heritage List; Register of the National Estate.

Infokoori (May 1991-)
Available to anyone
An index to the Koori Mail, a national fortnightly newspaper published in Lismore, NSW, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is also an index to biographical information on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from the magazines: Dawn (1952-1969), New Dawn (1970-1975) and Identity (1971-1982)

Archives Office of Tasmania
Available to anyone
Index to Tasmanian Photographs contains photographs of Tasmanian interest from the 1850s to the present.
Tasmanian Archives Online is the Archives Office of Tasmania’s on-line link to information on its publicly available holdings.

Website of the AIATSIS Library catalogue, includes bibliographic details of all Library materials. The Library contains comprehensive collections of print materials on Australian Indigenous studies.

Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family history
Information about family history research put together by the Family History Unit of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies group.

AEI-ATSIS: Australian Education Index - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Subset (1978-)
Indexes and abstracts articles from the Australian literature in education and training relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is produced by the Cunningham Library at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

AHB: Australian Heritage Bibliography  (1987-)
Indexes and abstracts published and unpublished material on Australia's natural and cultural environment, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander records and is produced by the Australian Heritage Commission.

APAIS-ATSIS: Australian Public Affairs Information Service, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Subset (1978-)
Subset of the APAIS database that indexes articles from published material on the social sciences and humanities. As far as possible, items are selected to represent various points of view on topics such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights and is produced by the National Library of Australia.

AIATSIS: Indigenous Studies Bibliography (1990-)
Indexes published and unpublished material on Australian Indigenous studies and is compiled by Pat Brady, Barry Cundy and Alana Garwood at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Library.

MAIS-ATSIS: Multicultural Australia and Immigration Studies - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Subset (1988-)
Indexes and abstracts a wide range of media on aspects of Australian immigration and multicultural issues which relate to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is produced by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Library.

Indigenous Australia (1968-1999)
Represents the collections of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission Library. Includes abstracts for all videos, and some monographs and articles.

ATSIhealth: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Bibliography (1900-)
Indexes published and unpublished material on Australian Indigenous health. Generally excludes social, historical, political or monetary aspects. Is compiled by Neil Thomson and John Sutherland at the School of Health Studies, Edith Cowan University.
